Online shopping experiences

A few weeks ago I shared my experience shopping online with Recreate Yourself. So today I wanted to do something similar, taking a step away from beauty products for a moment I want to share with you two of my favourite online websites for buying clothes. Surf Stitch, and Lucy in the sky. These are both Australian based sites, with reasonably cheap clothes that are great quality. I’ll start with Lucy in the sky as I’ve shopped with them over 10 times for a number of years.

I haven’t placed an order with Lucy for awhile now, mainly because I don’t go out as much as I used to and I don’t have a need for new dresses! The selection of clothing is fantastic; there are a number of choices for dresses, skirts, tops etc. The pricing is great, most dresses are well under $100 and they offer free express postage for orders over $30! And usually when I place an order it arrives the next day! The great thing is they offer free returns for full priced purchases; you just need to print out a postage label that they send you. I’ve never had to return items though, mainly because I used to think it was a huge hassle.

What I have noticed about the clothing and the brands they offer is that some other stores and websites offer the same if not similar item for about twice the price. I purchased a coat from Lucy a few years ago for $85 and I noticed a store near me had a pretty similar coat (it was a different colour) at around $135!

The only issue I have with Lucy, which is also a risk when purchasing clothing online is the sizing. I have purchased items before that have been a size 12, when it arrived it was more of an 8 or 10! And sometimes the item is a little big! But majority of the time I have a great experience with them and I continue to buy from them and so do my friends.

Next up I’ll tell you about Surf Stitch, I have purchased from them a few times and have always been impressed, not only with the products but also the service. They also offer free postage! I took a gamble once and purchase swimwear, needless to say the swimwear wasn’t the correct sizing for me, which I had expected. But the great thing about Surf Stitch is that with orders over $50 they send you a postage label and returns form with your order anyway. So I was easily able to return the items and receive a refund! Because I knew how awesome this process was, I had no issue purchasing clothing from them for Birthday and Christmas presents. I didn’t need to return any, but I purchased from them because I knew I had this option.

The communication from the Surf Stitch staff is also amazing. During the Christmas/New Year period I wanted to purchase some sunglasses, and I couldn’t find the ones I wanted locally, luckily I found them on Surf Stitch and they were reasonably priced, and also they had a 20% off special at the time. I was a little bit concerned about how well the sunnies would travel. So I contacted the Surf Stitch staff and asked how they were transported etc. The feedback I received was very prompt and I felt confident purchasing my sunnies online.

The last great thing about Surf Stitch is that they are always have discount promotions and sales, usually if you purchase over a certain amount you get a certain percentage off! I used one of these promotions to also purchase Christmas and Birthday presents so that was great! I love Surf Stitch so much that I have recommended them to my friends and family. My dad even bought my Christmas presents off their site!

Have you experienced either of these stores or know any other great online clothe shops?

March Violet Box

This box was both really exciting and really disappointed. I will firstly tell you the products I received and then tell you my issues with it.

Love those lashes silk strip $14.95 – These are cute and look like something that might suit me.

Mirenese Velvet Lip Lift Shine lipgloss $39.95 (deluxe sample)- #42 I have two mirenesse lip glosses already and I quite like them, this is a nice colour because it’s a natural peach that I think would suit most people.

Starlook Gem Pencil in Topaz $19.50 - another fullsize product, can be used as an eyeliner or eyeshadow base.

Sweetpea & Fay Liquid Lipstick $ 13.00- I can't remember the shade name, looks pretty cute but i'd prefer a different colour, and less matte.

Acorelle Skincare - Day cream sample - Combats skin ageing and makes skin radient. Sounds interesting but I am pretty happy with my current skincare routine.

I was excited because there wasn’t 100 sachet samples and 4 reasonably sized items, I think two or three were full sized. But the disappointing part was the choice in shades. The eyeliner I received was in topaz, I haven’t even opened it to swatch it yet because I know I will give it away. Coloured eyeliner is not something I’m interested in wearing, I probably would have when I was thirteen and didn’t know better. The liquid lipstick is also not in a colour I would personally wear, a bright purple/pink, I haven’t swatched this either as I will probably give it to my friend who might wear it. The eyelashes look great, but again I have a few lashes already in stock that I don’t wear because I save those kinds of things for special occasions and going out.

Concealer Review Series Part #3

I haven't been as organised with this series as I would have liked so I'm sorry that. I have spent my Saturday writing and preparing posts which I'm going to start scheduling through the week. Makes it easier for me so I don't have to stress about rushing to write posts. So far you have seen the miracle of L'oreal True Match Touche Magique and Rimmel Wake Me Up, and now you can see how the Maybelline Dream Lumi  Touch Highlighting Concealer!

This concealer is very similar to the L'oreal one in the way that they are both stick brushes that you twist and apply. I have the Ivory colour of this which I think it is the lightest shade, but the shade Radient looks almost lighter. Maybelline say it's a gel like texture that diffuses light to provide on-the spot perfection, illuminates as it conceals!

I think it's a great concealer, i'm not sure it's as illuminating as the L'oreal one, just by looking at the before and after pictures you can see it has made a small amount of different but the darkness is still obvious. I do use this over the bridge of my nose to highlight and that works reasonably well.

I apply this after my foundation, so in the photos below I have used the Revlon Naked Foundation in Shell and then applied the concealer over the top under my eyes.

Before: Revlon Naked Foundation only

After: Maybelline Dream Lumi over the top

I think overall this is a decent concealer, probably better if you don't have really dark under eyes, or you are using this shade and you have darker skin than mine. The part I like the most is the packaging and the brush/pen application!

Have you tried this concealer? What are your thoughts and do you know if the Radient shade is actually lighter?

NYX Butt Naked Palette

Nyx cosmetics

Today I bring you a really exciting post! As most of you are aware NYX Cosmetics arrived in Target stores towards the end of last year, in my state only two Target stores received the first lot. One store is at the other end of the state and the other store is in a suburb I don’t venture to. I have been out there specifically for the NYX products and to my excitement I recently asked on the NYX facebook page if our city store would be receiving the products, which they replied with YES! The products were meant to hit the store last week, and when I noticed there was no sign of a NYX stand I messaged them. Due to issues with the display the products wouldn’t be in store until this week, Today actually. (It still isn't in store yet!) This made me really disappointed, but the kind gals at NYX sent me a sample pack, which has perked me right up! I was expecting some sample sized products or something along those lines, but here is what I got, The Butt Naked Eyes Palette ($25).

This is a two level palette, the top featuring a mix of natural colour eyeshadow shades in matte and shimmer! I guess it's taking advantage of the fame and popularity of the Urban Decay Naked Palettes. I haven't tested this out yet but it does look amazing!

The lower level is easy to pull out, you just push the top level backwards. This level features 4 blush shades, unfortunately I haven't been able to find any names for the blushes but the first one on the left looks very similar to "Pinched". There is also a Bronzer on the left and two Illuminators on the right, again no shade names. I'm really excited by this product, it's a handy all in one product that I think will be great for travelling! I can't wait to try out all the shades and let you know what they are like.

I am also going to list a few of the products I have down on my list to buy, and I’d love to know if you have any of the products and what you think of them.

Shine Killer Primer – I have a serious issue with an oily t-zone, I even use a matte foundation but it still gets oily. Hopefully this can help me combat this issue.

HD Studio Photogenic Primer – This does sound like it would be the perfect primer for nights or days out. I’m just keen to give it a try.

Matte Setting Spray – I’d hope with a combination of the shine killer and this setting spray my foundation would stay put for a full 8 hour day! I would love to know your thoughts on this spray.

Mega shine lip gloss in Beautiful & Perfect – The Butter glosses are my favourite lip product of all time, and I’d love them even more if they were available in shimmer shades. Here is hoping that the mega shine lip glosses will have a similar texture and moisturising ability as the butter glosses!

NYX blush in Pinched – I have one of their cream blushes which I love, but sometimes a girl likes a bit of shimmer, and this shade is considered a dupe for NARS Orgasm which I really want to try. ( I guess I don't need that now it's in the palette)

Eyebrow Cake Powder – I don’t actually do anything with my brows at the moment, but I thought it would be cool to have a product that I could try it out with and make my brows look less patchy!

What are you favourite NYX products?

What's in my overnight bag #2

Being a part of the blogging world has introduced me to products that I never knew existed or i'd never consider using or trying. Lots of companies also have travel size products, or travel packs to help introduce you to their products without having to fork out a fortune for a product that may not work for you. There is also the beauty subscription boxes which also help to do this. Because I have been introduce to new wonderful products my beauty bag is forever changing and so is my overnight beauty bag, so today I bring you an update on my overnight bag.

We will begin with skincare; my current cleanser that I leave in the bag is my First Aid Beauty face cleanser, this is a nice cream cleanser that works really well at removing makeup and dirt. I have also recently added the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant which is a really nice addition to my routine, it helps to remove the dry skin that I often get. A product I received from one of my beauty boxes has also been added to the bag, the Paula's Choice skin perfecting gel. It really helps to reduce or prevent any annoying blemishes that may arise. The moisturiser that I currently use is the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense, I don't like this as much as the original one, but because it is so intense I don't use as much so it will last me a lot longer, more suited to super dry skin. I also try to use an eye cream regularly to help my concealer apply better, but also because I get sore eyes in the outer corners and an eye cream helps to prevent this, currently I am using the Bobbi Brown Hydrating eye cream. And finally for those days I can't be bothered removing my makeup properly I use a Swisspers Face Wipe, and then I apply the skin perfecting gel for added help.

Now on to my favourite part, makeup! I have been using the MAC Mineralize Skin Finish at the moment as my foundation because I am fake tanned, and everything else I own is a bit too light. I have been paring that with the Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer, as that is the darkest concealer I own, which is still pretty light. When not fake tanned I am using the Maybelline Dream Lumi concealer, and you can expect a review on that very soon.Cosmetic Kitchen Angled Contour brush to apply the powder which is a handy tool to use. When I am not fake tanned I use my MAC Prep and Prime BB Cream in Light, I apply this with my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. I also use the MAC skin finish to set my concealer and my t-zone, I use the Real Techniques setting brush to set the powder. My most favourite blush at the moment is the Essence Silky Touch Blush in #50 Sweetheart, I use either the Cosmetic Kitchen brush or the setting brush to apply this depends what I have in the bag, they both work really well. For lips I rotate between my MAC Creme Sheen in Peach Blossom, and Rimmel Apocalips in Solstice this depends on how I feel at the time as they are very different shades. Finally for my eyes I currently only apply mascara, in the bag at the moment is the Benefit They're Real, usually it's the Maybelline Falsies though.
I use the

Some extra products I have in the bag are a shampoo, currently I  use Clariol Color Radiance which I received in a beauty box. I also bought some travel sized Pure Fiji products to try, I love these so much already. In the bag I have the Coconut Milk Shower Gel in Mango, and the Hydrating Body Lotion in Pineapple! I smell like a delicious fruit salad afterwards! And my most prized possession at the moment is my Tangle Teezer!

Now you have what I currently take in my overnight bag, this changes all the time depending on what products I am using and what fits in there! The bag itself I got as a Clinique GWP, it is cute and fun and surprisingly it fits a lot in it!

Do you have any of these products in your overnight bag?

IBD Gel Polish additions

I recently decided I wanted some more colours to use with my Gel LED lamp, I have the Gelicious lamp but these polishes are really expensive to buy. So I did some research and found some other cheaper brands on eBay, of course they are cheaper in the US.

I purchased some IBD polishes from this eBayer, they let me combine postage too which was great. The three shades I purchased were Maui Sunset (deep cranberry colour), Naturally Beautiful (light nude colour), and Sweet Melody (pink/light coral colour). The polishes were almost $9 each and the postage was all up $11.50 for the three.

I have only applied the Maui Sunset so far, on my toes as I currently have French Shellac on my nails. But I did order some nail wheels so I have cured the colours on there so you can see. I also added a swatch of a CND Shellac shade that I have, Rose Bud. I've never used this before, so I wanted to swatch it to see how many coats it takes (2).

Maui Sunset can take 2-3 coats. I used 3 on m toes but only 2 doing the swatches. Sweet Melody and Naturally Beautiful took 3 coats, but they may differ on the actual finger nails. I'll be sure to let you know.

So far I am really like these polishes and their colours. They took a bit over 2 weeks to arrive, but I really recommend the eBayer listed above.

Concealer review series #2

I haven't been able to do another concealer review because 1. I had a very busy weekend and 2. I didn't wear any concealer over the weekend. So I present to you number #2 in the concealer review, Rimmel Wake Me Up in Ivory.

This concealer is quite thick and has a spongey doe foot applicator, not a brush like other concealers I own. Complete with vitamins and peptides it claims to visible awaken and illuminates under the eye as well as completely concealing and covering other spots.

I do agree with a few of these claims, but I wish I had taken a photo a few hours after application to see if the vitamins do actually help awaken the eye. I know it concealed the undereye and made it a little bit lighter, but my lighting is terrible and you can't really tell that in the photos.

It is really good at covering spots and redness though! I might try and use this and the L'oreal one and see if together they make more of a difference. Stay tuned for that.

I firstly applied my foundation which was the Chanel Mat Lumiere, I then applied the concealer under my eye and down a bit in a triangle shape. I then blended it with my finger by tapping it until it was blended. I also lightly applied MAC skinfinish in Natural over the top using my Real Techniques Setting Brush. And that was it!

Overall this is a nice creamy concealer that does not dry or flake under the eyes! If you're after a cheap affordable concealer, and you don't suffer from really dark undereye circles then you should give this a try!

Tangle Teezer!

I just wanted to do a quick post mainly because I’ve been a bit slack lately. I’ve just been very busy with my personal life, but it does mean that I have a few products up my sleeve that I want to share with you. Obviously the concealer review is included in those products! Keep an eye out for some great reviews coming your way!

Today’s featured product is the amazing Tangle Teezer! As you know I have very fine hair, which means it tangles easily and is a pain to brush when it’s wet! Well It is no longer a struggle to brush my hair! I have found my holy grail of all products! This handy palm sized product glides effortlessly through dry hair AND wet hair! I no longer have to start at the ends of my hair and brush up, I just stroke the brush slowly through my hair from the scalp down!

The handy thing about this product is the size! It means it will fit easily in my handbag or overnight bag without taking up too much space! I purchased the Compact Styler from Beauty Bay ($20.40), it comes with a cover to protect the bristles when travelling and reduce dust and fluff getting onto the brush. I purchased Pink fizz, a hot pink, but you can also get Black, Gold and a groovy leopard print too! There is also the Original which also comes in Pink Fizz and a variety of other bright colours ($16.60). The Compact Styler retails at $34.95 on the official website and the Original is $29.95. That’s why I’m glad sites are out there that post from the US and UK to Australia so we can take advantage of the cheaper prices.

Beauty Bay also has free postage to Australia so I took the opportunity to purchase the Goldwell 60sec Rich Repair Mask ($14.10), this retails at $24.95. You can expect to see a review of that in the next few weeks!

Seriously if you don’t already own this brush, you need to! And with options out there for purchasing it super cheap you don’t have much to lose! Some people don’t like it, but honestly I don’t know how you can’t! It’s amazing!

Concealer Review Series - Part 1

As promised, I have began my concealer review series. The series will probably not fully take off until next week as I have a lot to do this weekend. But I wanted to start it off with one of my new purchases which I really like. L'Oreal True Match Touche Magique, I have the shade Rose Beige which is a pinky light toned.

These concealers claim to illuminate and cover blemishes and undereyes. I have only used it on my undereyes at the moment, but it really does illuminate. Reviewers suggest that this product is the dupe for the YSL Touche Eclat, I haven't tried that yet but i'm dying to!

I've added three photos below, the first with no concealer just MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream, the second photo with just the L'oreal concealer over the top of the BB cream, and the last photo was set with the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural powder, to dull down the shine and make it last longer.

I hope this post was useful, and it's given you and insight into the highlighting properties of this concealer! The lasting power is also really good. I can't wait to bring you the next instalment!

Priceline 40% haul!

As many of you are aware the last two days Priceline has had 40% off make up and nail products. Yesterday I went in and purchased a few items, not as many as I thought I would, but it turned out I didn't need anything.

I've been struggling with dark undereyes lately and nothing seems to fix that with high coverage. I purchased the L'Oreal True Match Touche Magique Illuminating Concealer $25.95 (in Rose Beige), and also the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Concealer $15.95 (in Ivory).

At the moment i've only had a chance to use the L'Oreal one, and I found it great! Illuminates and has great coverage. It currently only comes in 4 shades and Rose Beige is the second lightest shade. I chose this over Ivory Beige because I wanted a concealer that was more pink toned rather than yellow.

I am planning on doing a concealer series, similar to my mascara one, so that I can review in depth all of my concealers, which I have a lot of lately. I'll probably only focus on under eyes unless I have some serious blemishes in the next few weeks. So watch this space for that!

Whilst at Priceline yesterday I noticed the Rimmel London Apocalips Lip Lacquers ($15.95), I hadn't really paid any attention to reviews about them, but I thought i'd go back and look at swatches online and pick shades that I think would suit me. I think there are about 8 shades to choose from, ranging from nude to bright red! On my list I had Luna and Celestial written down, once I looked at the actual shades I decided Luna was far too orange for me, and then I noticed Solstice. A lovely deep pink colour with shimmer! I ended up purchasing this and wore it for the rest of the day. You'll find swatches below!

I can't wait for the next 40% off sale! Hopfully the skincare sale is on soon! I have a list of Luxe products I would like!

Did you pick up any great bargains from the Priceline sale?

Blush collection

Today i've decided not to post about a review of a product, or mention any new hauls, instead i'm going to share with you my very small blush collection. For a year if not more I had one single lonely blush, it was a Bourjois one, I can't remember the name but it was a lovely rose gold, that smelt like roses. I do still have it and i'm no where near hitting the pan. For some reason I couldn't find it whilst preparing my blushes for this post! I'll have to do a separate post on that when I find it.

My blush collection expanded towards the end of last year when I went through all this make up I had been given by one of my relatives, she had a lot of gift with purchases. So my collection was expanded with a lovely Estee Lauder Palette that features three lovely signature blush shades and one bronzer. Complete with a mirror and little brush this palette would be very handy for travelling. Let me tell you about the shades, we have Bronze Goddess - a soft matte bronzer. Pink kiss - a lovely pink colour that's more matte than shimmery. Radiant Peach - A gorgeous peach shade with a lovely gold shimmer - it's actually what i'd expect NARS Orgasm to look like (I haven't seen it in the flesh). And finally Nude Rose - A lovely matte nude shade.

Next up in my collection I purchased NYX Cream Rouge in natural. I mainly just wanted to try the NYX range and I have never tried a cream blush so I thought it was the perfect opportunity. There is nothing natural about this particular shade, it is pink, very pink. But when applied lightly with a brush it can look quite subtle, or with a heavier hand it can look more prominent, depends on what you like. As for the cream texture, I tend to use this particular brush when I know i'm not going to apply powder over my face as it doesn't mix well under or over powder! But it is still a great blush!

I then added an Essence blush to my collection. I heard so much great feedback on Essence products as a whole that I really wanted to try one of their products. From what I researched the blushes were fantastic. So I wanted a shade that I didn't already had and was more natural and not as pink. I purchase #50 Sweetheart, I have referred to this blush a lot and I think I might have used the wrong shade number before. But this is a really lovely nude colour with a slight pink tone, it doesn't really have much shimmer and I find I where this the most out of all the shade ranges I currently own.

Lastly, thanks to one of my beauty box subscriptions i received a Bombshell 'The one' stick, this can be used for lips, eyes and cheeks but I have only used it on my cheeks. The shade I have is called Girl Crush, which i'd describe as a very light lilac shade with a bit of pink toning. It is quite lovely on the skin, it probably doesn't look that nice swatched next to the pinker shades but I assure you it is lovely!

So this is my current collection, NYX is coming to my local Target store soon, so i'll be planning on purchasing a few more of their blushes, apparently there is a dupe for the NARS Orgasm in their collection. In future months I am going to save for a NARS blush, in either Orgasm, Super Orgasm or Deep Throat, they all look like lovely shades. In the meantime I plan to rotate my collection on a regular basis so I can get great use out of all of these lovely shades!
L-R: Bronze Goddess, Pink Kiss, Radiant Peach, Nude Rose

T-B: Blended NYX, NYX Natural, #50 Sweetheart, Bombshell Girl Crush

A collection of minis

I love sampling products, I like trial size, I like mini size, I just like purchasing or receiving products that have enough in them to give you an insight into what the full size product is like. I also like the travel convenience of smaller products, I can fit more in my overnight bag! So today I bring you my latest mini purchases! These products were purchased by me from Adore Beauty, they also through in some samples and a Tim Tam! My favourite part!

Philosophy 3 in 1 Cleanser - I thought my cleanser wasn't doing much for me anymore, so I decided to google around and see what else I could find that would cost me a lot of money, and would allow me to trial a smaller size before purchasing the full size. I came across the small version of this cleanser at Adore Beauty, I then went on to search for reviews, both on Beauty Heaven and also Make Up Alley. It seemed to be rated quite highly, so i thought for $15 it wouldn't hurt to try it. Before it arrived, I finally figured out that it wasn't solely my cleanser not working for me, I just wasn't cleaning my face enough. In stepped my Facial Brush which I mentioned in my Favourites post yesterday.

Adore Beauty throws in two free samples if you purchase over $30, so I decided to look for another sample sized products I knew i'd get some use out of. So here I have, O&M Know Knot Conditioning Detangle Spray with Macadamia & Argan oil, to replenish the hair and restore softness and shine to the hair. I also purchased from O&M the Maintain the Mane Conditioner with rosemary and sage to help promote a healthy scalp and add moisture. I'm excited to try both of these products as you know I'm trying to build a really healthy scalp and hair at the moment! My scalp is currently suffering from sunburn, so it looks awful at the moment!

Hopefully I go well sampling these products! Have you tried any of the above? Or do you love trial size and travel sized products like I do?

February Favourites

I honestly can’t believe it is March already! The last two months have flown by; it feels like Christmas was only yesterday, not over two months ago! In a typical blogger fashion today I’ll be going over my favourite products during February! I’m going to quickly go over the highlight post from February as well.

For the month of February we saw some http://uniquelyimi.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/budget-beauty-buys.html, featuring E.L.F as a standout brand, which is quite applicable at the moment as Kmart is now stocking E.L.F products. I personally haven’t been to my local Kmart to see if it’s there, but I can’t wait to check it out! Maybelline also brought out an express nail polish remover, a highly useful product that cuts down the time used to remove nail polish! We checked out the advantages of buying products online from an Australian website, Recreate Yourself, and I shared with you my mascara review series!

This month I am love a few product, most of which I bought in the middle or towards the end of February, so they will probably feature in March Favourites also, but let’s see what they are!

MAC Prep & Prime BB Cream (light) – In my defense I had a sample size of this, which I have used and talked about previously and I purchased the full size in the last week of Feb. I am loving this because it has great coverage and it is quite moisturising, I don’t really use a primer with this.

MAC Cream sheen lip stick in Peach Blossom – I also had a sample of this for quite a while, I still have it I just keep it in my handbag, but I recently purchased the full size! I love this because it’s moisturising and the colour is close to my lips but better!

MAC Mineralize Skin finish in Natural – I have had this for quite awhile, and I’ve recently started using it more since I bought my Real Techniques setting brush. It’s great for using under my eyes and through the t-zone where I go oily sometimes.

Real Techniques Brushes – I purchased these in February from iHerb. I love them! I use the setting brush to set my powder under my eyes and t-zone. I use the Face Expert Brush for both foundations and my BB creams, it works wonders. I find I can tell when it needs to be washed as the foundation doesn’t blend properly!

Goldwell Dual Senses Rich Repair – I love this shampoo so much, makes my hair feel soft and healthy and it looks great too!

Lush Lip Scrub in Bubblegum – I can’t believe I hadn’t used lip scrubs before this! It has helped my lips to be smooth, less flakey and my lipsticks apply much nicer! Very glad I got this for Christmas and it tastes delicious!

Body Shop Facial Brush – I have only recently started using this more thoroughly since I discovered it is a huge helper in cleaning my pores! Before using this, my pores were really obvious both morning and night, since I added this into my routine and focused it over my nose, my pores are a lot less visible!

I could probably add a million more products to my favourites list, but I decided to narrow it down to products I use every day.

Are any of these products on your favourites list? Or maybe they are on you Lust list?

I'm planning to do a no buy month for March, so you'll see a few posts in the next week or so of products I purchased at the end of February to help me get through my no spending month!
